Also paging HFV. We are now Cabriolet buddies!

I endorse your bad life choices.
Wait, I say that to everybody.
I should set up a hotkey.

Looks rad! Did you get that or is that an old picture of somebody else?

Did KY completely discontinue the smiling sun plates? That would be SO perfect on the Cabrio.
FIND ME A HAPPIER LICENSE PLATE THAN THIS:

Sadly, I think they did. From just the otherside of the river in Ohio I haven’t seen a smiling sun one in a long timtime.
Also , it’d be prefect for a fun little cabrio..

Kentucky plates haven’t been smiley since 2005. They only lasted a little over three years after being introduced in 2002. Everyone hated them. :(
Nice VW! I love those things. I have a buddy that used to have one. He moved to Kentucky from California and drove the VW the whole way.
Where in Kentucky are you? I’m in Owensboro. I have a h istoric plate on my Sunbird now and I love the way it looks.

Nice!
Looks much better Han mine. I like the tan top. If I ever get to replace mine I want to go white. Also I strangely love the chrome taillight covers.
You should lower it. Mine is juuuuust barely lowered, but stock ones look like 4x4s.

Holy cow I love that.

I'm actually in Dayton, Ohio. This wasn't too far away, though.

Thanks! I kind of want to put it on coilovers since it’ll only drive in warm months.
That pic I commented the other day was from this car. Did you end up checking your ignition timing? I remembered if your timing is set 180 out, you can have plug wires set as you said.

This is me. You all now know what I look like. I now own a Cabriolet. I guess.

Nice! Looks to be in great shape! Hopefully better than your other two VWs
The pic has a 90s vibe to it, with the car looking new (and those shorts maybe? ) Hence my confusion

I haven’t checked it yet. Too busy with house projects.

stock ones look like 4x4s.
You say that like it’s a bad thing.

It’s stupid clean. Only rust is some surface stuff on the exhaust. Apart from that, the rearmost transmission mount was a bit crispy and there are standard VW oil leaks, but it’s dumb clean.
Ha, yeah, I've been told I dress very "grunge".

Fair. What year is yours?

And about the other two... No more Jetta.

Sounds like a more than lateral move!

Openly and shamelessly jealous. Nice score!

Thank you!

It'd a huge upgrade honestly

that looks super clean, (orig paint?)
![]() 08/16/2019 at 22:33 |

I'm pretty sure it is! Top is a replacement though and the back seat is a little torn, but overall, very clean. Like, I need to find a garage to keep it in and only drive it on the weekends clean.

Mines an 84. Hey now you can send me a pic of your plug wires for comparison!
![]() 08/17/2019 at 07:44 |

And we both hav e CIS so we can suffer together!
I was going to look at a different one a few hours away that was carbed- it used the manifold from the VW motor in a early Dodge Omni (the 1.5 bored to 1.7) so that should bolt up , so ya know
![]() 08/17/2019 at 23:42 |
|
Mine is already carbed with an aftermarket manifold and a small Weber, I forget which one, but it’s popular for sub 2 liter engines.
I almost wish it was stock tho because so much had been messed with. It’s got a lot of wires that go no where
![]() 08/18/2019 at 09:00 |

Honestly this winter when it's parked I might end up carbing it and deleting CIS since it's a pain apparently. I'd lose a few horses, but it's not like I was going to drive it on the highway.

I’ve driven mine on the freeway. It’s scary at 75 lol.

I knew the smiley sun was “controversial” at the time, but I thought in the end people liked the kitschy appeal of it. I thought it was ridiculous at first
but ended up loving it.
![]() 08/18/2019 at 13:56 |

...Why would you do that. My 96 Golf is scary at 75...
![]() 08/18/2019 at 14:10 |
|
It was right after I bought it. There was about 10 miles of freeway that was the only viable way home
![]() 08/18/2019 at 14:14 |

Makes sense. In my Golf I just stick in the right lane and go 60-65. Anyone who doesn't like it can pass me.

Itd be a good thing if they were. A Golf Country drivetrain swap can’t be that hard...
